Celebrating Successful Women at WERONE - Featuring Carolina | Anak & I

Interview with Carolina, Co-Founder of Anak & I

How did the idea for your business come about?

My sister-in-law and I were shopping for our little ones and we found it challenging to find modern and trendy apparels that were suitable for our climate, made of quality materials, and easy on our wallets.

What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur?

Being able to constantly explore new ideas at our own pace, and having the freedom to take risks and push boundaries.

How did you come up with the name for your company?

Anak translates into “Child”. It was commonly used in my childhood days. Living in a multi-cultural society, we tend to speak in the Singaporean “rojak” language.

What motivates you?

Whenever I see our customers on the streets dressed in Anak & I. Especially when they look good and feel confident in their appearance. Also when they sing praises of our designs and quality. Constructive feedback from our customers also fuels my motivation to make our products even better.

What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

The process of seeing our creative designs come to fruition in actual form; every time a fresh design arrives from our manufacturers. And seeing the smiles on the little faces of our customers when they are dressed in Anak & I.

What is your favourite aspect of being an entrepreneur?

Being able to work at my own pace, and to live my life on my terms. Also, having the freedom to be in charge of manufacturing, operation, and marketing while developing products simplifies the decision-making process. I have the flexibility to make decisions more quickly and start new collaborations on the fly.
